Chitra Rajagopal, MD

Chitra Rajagopal, MD (“Dr. Raj”) is a Board-certified medical oncologist. She earned her medical degree from Stanley Medical College in Madras, India, where she was recognized as the Best Outgoing Student of her graduating class. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She also completed a subspecialty fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at Georgetown.

Dr. Rajagopal has served as an instructor and assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Georgetown University Hospital. Since 1997, she has provided comprehensive cancer care in the community setting, with special expertise in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation. She has also served in key leadership roles at Shady Grove Hospital, including head of the transfusion committee and as a member of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee and the ethics committee.

She has also been a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Bone Marrow Transplant Registry.
